Historical & Geological Context

Sessile and pedunculate oak felled in winter from managed European forests (Tronçais, Spessart, Ardennes). Hand-hewn with a traditional side-axe (doloire), this process follows the natural curvature of the grain rather than cutting through it, resulting in superior structural resistance to deflection and authentic historical surface facets.

Petrographic & Geological Characteristics

European deciduous oak (Quercus robur / Quercus petraea), slow-grown, winter-felled.

Lime Mortar & Breathability Compatibility

Compatible with natural lime plaster panels; oak heartwood tannins react with wet lime creating natural protective carbonate barrier.

Provenance & Historical Sourcing

Sustainably managed French and German oak forests (PEFC certified).

Condition Report & Patina

Green or air-seasoned; hewn to order according to traditional timber framing layout (épure).
