Historical & Geological Context
Pierre de Bourgogne represents a celebrated family of jurassic limestone beds quarried across the Côte-d'Or and Yonne. Ranging from dense ivory-beige (Comblanchien) to warm golden flamed (Chassagne), its ultra-low porosity and frost resistance have made it the material of choice for palace hallways, cloister walkways, terrace flagstones, and solid architectural steps.
Petrographic & Geological Characteristics
Compact micritic limestone (Jurassic Bathonian / Bajocian), high density (2.65 g/cm³), frost-proof.
Lime Mortar & Breathability Compatibility
Vapour-permeable; bed exclusively with aerial lime (CL90) or natural hydraulic lime (NHL 2 / NHL 3.5). Never use Portland cement.
Provenance & Historical Sourcing
Active and historical quarries across the Côte-d'Or; IGPIA Indication Géographique Protégée.
Condition Report & Patina
Quarried fresh or reclaimed; non-porous, frost-proof, and suitable for high-traffic interior or exterior use.
